Jim & Carolyn Fasold Bio
Jim was born December 12, 1941 in Chicago. He received Christ as his Savior at the age of five. From his earliest years God gave him a desire to serve as a missionary. Carolyn was born July 20, 1943 in Argentina where her parents were serving as missionaries. Like Jim, she accepted Christ as her Savior at the age of five. When she was eleven her parents returned to the States established a church among the Puerto Ricans in Gary, Indiana who worked in the steel mills. Carolyn attended Ben Lippen School in Asheville, NC.
Jim and Carolyn met at Columbia International University (formerly Columbia Bible College) in Columbia, S.C. where they received a B.A. in Religious Education. After graduation Jim became the youth pastor of the Jefferson Park Evangelical Free Church in Chicago. Jim and Carolyn were married June 19, 1965. In 1966 Jim completed his M.A. in N.T. at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School.
The Fasolds arrived in Spain for their first term in November, 1967. After Jim studied Spanish in Barcelona (Carolyn was fluent in Spanish), the Fasolds entered a church planting ministry in the province of Guipúzcoa. In 1974 the Lord led them and Dr. Luis Carballosa to found the Spanish Bible Institute and Theological Seminary (IBSTE), 13 miles south of Barcelona. Jim served as Dean of Faculty 1974-1976 and as Director 1976-2005. Carolyn served as Business Manager 1975-1978 and 1980-2005. Carolyn taught a course on Christian Education for Children, and Jim, Hermeneutics, Pneumatology, Ecclesiology, Eschatology, Christian Leadership, Synoptic Gospels, and Orientation to the Ministry. In addition to their full-time ministry at IBSTE, they both had a wide ministry as conference speakers.
After handing over their responsibilities to their successors in January, 2006 Jim and Carolyn continued to help IBSTE by teaching and raising funds until August, 2010 when they dedicated all of their time to serve as (1) conference speakers in churches on subjects that promote church growth, (2) conference speakers to pastors and missionaries, (3) consultants to pastors and church boards, (4) counselling church members they met at the conferences they gave, and (5) writing books. Jim wrote a book on love, courtship and marriage (Tu Media Naranja), spiritual gifts (Dones Espirituales), and hermeneutics (Con Precisión). This last book, published by Tyndale in 2018, opened doors for him to give three-hour seminars on hermeneutics to pastors in various countries of Latin America. With the publication of Carolyn’s book ¿Enojado? in 2019, she added this topic to the list of conferences she gives on this subject. In 2019 the Fasolds’ conference ministry began to take them more and more to Latin America with periodic times of ministry in Spain.
Jim and Carolyn continue to serve with Greater Europe Mission (18950 Base Camp Rd., Monument, CO 80132, tel. 719-488-8008). Their son David has pastored the Bay Hills Community Church in El Sobrante, CA since September of 1994. Their daughter Becky and her husband Jonathan have served in Ireland since March, 2004 where Jonathan serves as full time as professor of O.T. at the Irish Bible Institute in Dublin and Becky as librarian and other administrative responsibilities.
