When God first began leading me to retire, it wasn’t at all part of my plan and I wondered if I was hearing Him correctly. These past few months however, have shown that this path was exactly the right one, giving me needed time to serve my family.

My brother, Bob, passed away on March 8 after a five year battle with cancer. I had visited him and my sister-in-law at their home in Florida in early January, and returned in early March to be with my sister-in-law and niece as he peacefully passed from this life. I made a third trip in early April for his memorial service. Bob had a lifelong love of fishing, as did our dad and grandfather. Before his death, he was able to pass on much of his fishing equipment to his grandson, including a fishing pole belonging to my grandfather. Bob said that he felt especially close to God when standing in a trout stream in the midst of God’s creation. He was a wonderful big brother and I miss him!
My sister, Nancy, has generalized arthritis causing a lot of pain. Several years ago she had a rod and cages placed in her spine. During the past year her back pain increased and numerous tests and doctor visits showed that her spine is once again in need of intervention. She was initially scheduled for March 29 until her insurance declined coverage. An appeal by the surgeon took a few weeks, but she has now been approved and is scheduled for April 26. The plan is for her to be in the hospital for 2-3 days with 6-12 weeks of recovery. Two of her daughters and I will be here taking shifts for the first few weeks she’s home from the hospital.
Please Pray… 1) Pray for my sister-in-law, Marlene, as she adjusts to life as a widow. They would have been married for 60 years in July, 2) Pray for my sister, Nancy, for a successful surgery and uncomplicated recovery. 3) Pray that I will keep my eyes on the Lord! |
